Congrats! It's Twins, Now What?

It’s twins! Great words to hear until it really sinks in, not one but two babies. When you learn that they are identical twins you quickly learn just how similar they are. When you get them home and soon learn how to tell them apart your life begins to get much easier. The gifts start pouring in from family and loved ones. Two of this, two of that and the clothes are identical, too!

Like most parents you dress them alike as babies because most people expect that you would. Then, it’s preschool time and now how will this work? Your dressing them alike is going to make it even harder on the teacher to tell them apart. So, perhaps you buckle just a bit and don’t totally dress them the same every single day. Just for a moment imagine being an identical twin. Suppose you are three years old and look next to you and not only this little person looks exactly like you, but she is dressed just like you too. It’s much like having a mirror follow you each and every day. Wouldn’t you suspect you would soon become sick of it?

Once they begin elementary school they will most probably not want to dress alike, which may be a gift. At least now you can finally treat them like the two individual people that they really are and let the fun begin! It is very hard for identical twins to discover and find their own identity because it has been carved out to them that they are the same. Everyone else knows they really are not the same, they just look the same. They have different likes and dislikes and may prefer different foods as well. The best thing you can do as a parent of identical twins is to treat them as separate births and to encourage their individuality. If you were a single birth then you were automatically treated this way. Simply because they were not a single birth they have to wait until their parents allow them to be their own person.

Many parents of twins buy them the same thing for their birthdays which can be a huge mistake! Buy them the top two items on their wish list and this way they can enjoy their gift and they can also switch them between each other. Ask them each separately what their favorite color is and keep this color in mind when shopping for them. Find out what their favorite food is and take turns cooking them and then announce that we are having spaghetti tonight which is that child’s favorite! This alone will teach them about being individuals because they will each look forward to their own favorite meals that you will make for them. If your home is large enough, give them each their own bedroom. This forces them to think independently because their twin is not right next to them. Don’t worry about them not being so close because they are twins and that is a gift that they will most likely share between each other for a lifetime. Give them the gift of individuality and you will be glad that you did.

Looking Into Adoption?

A baby is a ray of sunshine. If you want children, but might not be able to physically have them, adopting is a good option. Besides having a child of your own, you will also provide a new home for someone who might have a bad fate. There are so many children in the world who don’t have a family and need a new home; one way to give a child without parents a home is to adopt one.

Adopting a baby is not an easy process. There is so much to think about and a lot of requirements need to be met. But is this is the way that you have chosen, then the right amount of endurance will help you through all the obstacles. When you adopt a child there are some important things to think about. First and foremost for the child's sake, that the baby should have a safe and loving life and a home to grow up in. It means that you as a parent need a good financial standing and have no problems with either alcohol or drugs or other psychological problems. None of the parents may have been convicted earlier. To start the process, contact an adoption agency near you.

There are different laws and requirements to meet, and they will help you to fulfill them. Also, try to contact various interest associations that are formed by parents who have adopted children. They might be able to give advice and counsel you through some of the steps on the way. If you have biological children from before, make sure that you are not treating the children any different. Conflicts may arise, but be sure that you tackle them early by showing that you treat everyone in the family equal. Also have in mind that the adopted baby may start to ask some questions about their background history.

Be even aware that when a child are adopted from another country, or if she or he has a different look or race can get some questions that may seem hard to her/him and also being teased during their grown up. It is important to talk with the child about its history when it is adopted; regardless of the child’s original origin. Do your homework and read about the child’s country and get to know the background history of the child. If you adopt a baby from another country you should keep in mind that the child may feel confused, cause of the new language, maybe even the food tastes funny, and many factors may play a role. You must also remember that, the younger a baby is when it’s adopted, the easier it becomes for both the baby and the adoptive parents to create a bond with each other.

Newborn Health Information

Having a newborn in the home is an exciting time for the whole family. It can also be quite a learning experience as well. The parents must learn to adapt to the baby just as much as the baby is learning to adapt to them. Newborn health should be followed very closely to all the resources you will be provided with from the pediatrician and also from any books or online resources you can get your hands on.

To fulfill your newborn health you must start during pregnancy. Everything that the mother does and is involved in during the pregnancy will directly effect the infant. This means you cannot engage in any foods, drinks or medications that may be unsafe for your baby. Alcohol and drugs are never a wise option for any pregnant woman, medications even the ones that can be purchased at the store as an over the counter medication should not be taken unless your doctor gives the ok to do so. Eating a nutritional diet and getting every visit in to the doctor to ensure your baby will be safe and healthy is key.

Once the baby is born and you have your little bundle of joy the next step in newborn health should be to provide that same good nutrition to your infant as well. All newborns have a different eating schedule and they will have different personal preferences for how well they eat and when they sleep. A newborn that is full is one that will sleep very well. Next you must always work closely with your newborn’s doctor to get all the immunizations they need to continue being healthy and to grow and develop just as planned. It is the choice of the parents to get these immunizations which will be something to discuss prior to giving birth. When you do deliver the baby, it is the first days they are in the hospital that they are given their very first immunizations so you need to have that established before going there to advise the nursing staff of what your decision is.

Keeping the baby is safe at all times is another large factor of good overall newborn health. A newborn cannot really get around very well as they cannot even sit up yet, but what they can do very quickly is roll over and they can also scratch themselves and pull blankets over their heads and many babies nearly suffocate themselves in the process. Always keep smaller blankets in the newborn’s crib or place them in a blanket sleeper that they will not harm themselves in and also stay warm while they are sleeping. Newborns are generally simple to care for as they must eat every few hours and the rest of the day they essentially spend sleeping. Keep your newborn clean, dry and fed and the weeks will go by very fast until they begin to reach certain milestones in their lives such as walking and talking so enjoy the quiet weeks as they do grow up very fast.
